The Demolition and Sale of Yankee Stadium

Yankee Stadium will soon be torn to the ground and along with it will come the selling of much of the historical memorabilia that has existed for many years within the stadium. The plan is for the majority of the stadium to be destroyed to make way for a new park, although many items will be saved and sold to collectors, such as seats and lockers. The demolition should start sometime in March and is expected to last almost a full year. It has already been decided that many items will be salvaged for sale to collectors and negotiations are in progress to decide what goes for sale and what is saved for the team. Many items such as stadium seats, lockers, and pieces of the scoreboard are already up for sale for thousands of dollars. Within days of the last game, many unused ticket stubs and pieces of dirt were for sale on the internet. It has also been decided that the 120 ft tall boiler stack outside the main gate will also be rescued from the demolition.

The city has also been in negotiations with the Mets to decide on the sale of the seats and other accessories from Shea Stadium which also soon be demolished to make way for the Mets' new stadium. The Mets are currently in the first phase of the sale of 16000 pairs of seats from Shea, charging $869 per chair. In an agreement between the Mets and the city of New York, 70% of the proceed will go to the city, while the rest will go to a charitable organization of the Mets choice.

After the destruction of the two stadiums, the two ball clubs will begin play in new state of the art parks in the Bronx and Queens. It is estimated that the sale of Yankee Stadium seats will fetch a much higher price than that of seats from Shea Stadium.
